How TorahML works

Last updated:

How this works · Find instructions, examples and limits for every research tool.

Start with the tool’s How this works control for its inputs, steps, example and limits. This guide covers the site’s pages and independently usable tools. Reference lookup and arithmetic are deterministic; statistical and model-assisted results require their stated evidence.

Home and navigation

Choose a tool from a Home card or the navigation menu. The TorahML logo returns to Home. Continue reading restores this browser’s last book and chapter. Search / the command palette also opens navigation and help. Display preferences stay in this browser.

Open Reader to begin Genesis 1; open How this works beside a tool for its own instructions. Corpus counts describe loaded data, not completeness.

Reader and verse actions

Choose a book and chapter or a parashah. Select up to three reading languages and choose each available translation edition. Hebrew display layers control vowels and cantillation; commentary, Siddur badges, text size and focus mode are optional. Select a Hebrew word for word study. Copy verse and Copy link share the displayed text or position.

Try Genesis 1:1 with Hebrew and English. Missing translation coverage stays explicit; Arabic here is Saadia’s Judeo-Arabic Torah in Hebrew letters.

Word study, structure and Siddur citations

The word panel has Word, Occurrences, Resonance and Al Tikrei sections. Inspect each source reading and confidence tier. Structure shows nested cantillation phrases. A Siddur badge opens attested citation references; Lab re-reading chips open alternate-vocalization statistics.

A shared consonantal form can have several readings. Qere is distinct from speculative alternates. Citation counts measure one imported Siddur, not verse importance. Structure is unavailable for Psalms, Proverbs and Job.

Dictionary and owner editing

Search Hebrew, English, a phrase or a Strong’s ID; filter the word language and select an entry. Simple and Detailed views show different levels of explanation. Definition details retain separately credited readings and source links. The authenticated owner editor saves revisions, refreshes sources and exports backups. Save or reset a draft before changing entries.

Try H216 (light). Homonyms and conflicting source readings remain separate; a gloss does not translate every occurrence. Private source fields are not public.

Torah word positions

Open Library Search → Word positions. Enter a number and select all scopes, Torah, Book or Parashah. Optional book and portion filters narrow occurrences without changing the origin of numbering. Inspect the highlighted word, all three positions and totals, open the exact occurrence or reader, and copy the submitted link.

Torah word 441 is אלהים, Genesis 2:2 word 2. The pinned written WLC edition has 79,982 Torah tokens. Numbering is one-based; prefixes stay attached, maqaf components count separately, and qere adds no written position. Fixed portions are independent of calendar combinations.

Morphology

Choose part of speech, verb stem and other available morphology filters, then search. Open a word or verse reference to inspect the tagged occurrence in context.

Try a verb-stem filter. Tags describe the credited source analysis, with source coverage and ambiguity; a match is not proof of a unique interpretation.

Gematria calculator, comparison and matching

Calculator sums Hebrew letters across 26 methods. Compare accepts separate words or whole phrases; Match keeps methods where every entered term has the same value. Open each method for its definition and worked example. Input conversion proposes Hebrew from other scripts; inspect the proposed spelling before calculating. Copy result link preserves the terms.

אחד has standard value 13. Vowels and cantillation do not count. Experimental methods are labeled; equal totals alone do not establish meaning. Source readings and word glosses can be missing or ambiguous.

Gematria by value and the names/place catalogue

By value shows matching corpus terms grouped by method, with occurrence references. Names & places searches a separate reference snapshot by number and one of five methods. Filter category and historical scope, optionally include generated spellings, then page through every matching record. Open a record’s audit for counted letters, word readings, parent and generation rule; follow its source link.

Try 600 under Standard. Default catalogue results are source spellings and aliases. Generated forms are mechanical possibilities, not attested names. English identity labels are not etymological translations; consonant transcription is not pronunciation. Pre-1890, lifespan-only and unknown scope remain labeled.

Gematria verse and span search

In Gematria → Verses choose a number or Hebrew text, corpus section, method and span/substitution options. Run the search, inspect matching spans and open their verse references.

A multi-word span can equal a number with no matching single corpus word. Changing spelling, span size, method or substitutions changes the search space and increases chance matches.

Calendar converter and weekly readings

Select a source calendar, enter its date and convert. Compare the primary cards and other calendar values. Today and previous/next day move through dates. Choose Sephardi or Ashkenazi readings, compare Israel and Diaspora, and copy the link.

Civil date-only conversion uses explicit BCE/CE conventions, without local sunset. Ancient readings project the present annual cycle rather than establish ancient practice. Long-range Persian dates can be estimates; inspect Conventions and limits.

Esther Study

Choose a linguistic view: sourced loanwords, historical markers, recurring key words or compression. Inspect the reported source, null, statistic and passage; select references to read in context.

An attested loanword is different from a dating inference. Clustering and compression need their stated controls; neither proves authorial intent.

Resonance and composition

Enter a Hebrew starting word and inspect graph neighbors, tiers and paths. Select targets to explore connections. For composition, supply the offered inputs and inspect judge/narrator mode, null status and search-adjusted results.

Every path’s confidence is its weakest link. A shared root, gematria match, cognate or model-generated narrative has its own evidence requirements. Stub narration is explicitly labeled; a story is not a finding.

Parallel passages

Select a registered passage pair and inspect its word alignment, edits and divergence measures. Open either reference to read the text; compare the result with its composition-matched controls.

Alignment measures textual differences. A low distance does not establish borrowing direction, dating or literary intent.

Leitwort, register and Targum divergence

Choose a book or passage and an analysis. Leitwort tests recurring-root positions; Register reports compression relative to its controls; Targum Divergence compares aligned Hebrew and Aramaic. Inspect the null, sample size, correction and source links.

A score’s meaning depends on its stated grain and baseline. A color or rank alone is not statistical significance; missing coverage remains explicit.

Experimental Lab

Enable Lab mode in navigation or Home, then choose a tool. Each tool has its own How this works control and permanent experimental framing. Set inputs before testing and inspect failed or insufficient-data verdicts.

Lab visibility is a preference, not validation. Rejected analyses are recorded; choosing parameters until a result passes is not a valid test.

ELS, Notariqon, Chiasmus, Paronomasia, Cartography and Semantic Parallax

ELS tests pre-specified Hebrew terms at letter skips against shuffled and control texts. Notariqon tests consecutive word initials/finals. Chiasmus inspects proposed mirror structure; Paronomasia finds sound-play candidates. Cartography measures gematria coincidences against its null. Semantic Parallax measures contextual sense uncertainty against a frequency/polysemy-matched null. Choose scope and inputs in each tool, then inspect its worked example, underlying text and verdict.

These are different hypotheses and controls. Passing a test does not prove hidden intent or establish a religious claim. A failed gate is a useful result.

Discovery Lab

Choose concept, phrase, narrative or motif retrieval and inspect passages, coverage and transfer evidence. Where offered, freeze the hypothesis before running the held-out challenge; inspect the reported null and verdict.

Concept and phrase retrieval has no independent semantic significance test. Scores rank candidates; they are not findings. Held-out challenge failures remain failures.

Feedback, usefulness votes and the owner inbox

Feedback opens a form for a bug, suggestion or question. Add the expected behavior and an optional reply email; Send feedback submits the displayed page/feature context. Useful / not useful attaches a vote to a result. The owner inbox filters written reports, updates status/notes, shows aggregate votes and exports CSV.

Feedback is retained for 12 months; Privacy lists the collected fields and deletion contact. Votes are not scientific validation. Owner exports can contain private reply addresses.

About, Our logo, Methods and legal pages

About explains purpose and research standards. Our logo explains The Conscious Bridge’s symbols. Methods defines all 26 calculations with anchored examples. Sources & licenses lists edition credits and permissions; Privacy, Terms, Cookies and Accessibility explain site policies. Use the header for research tools, the footer for reference pages and the logo for Home.

The illustration on Our logo is interpretive symbolism. Source licenses apply independently of the engine’s MIT license; inclusion in an inventory does not grant access to private material.

Unavailable pages, failed requests and access

Use the navigation on a missing page to return Home. Retry a temporary failure after a short wait; keep the input or shared link. If an API access key is requested, enter the configured key; it stays in page memory. Optional tools explain when their dataset or model is unavailable.

An unavailable source is not an empty result. Do not infer a negative finding from a failed request. Feedback can include the page and exact error without passwords or sensitive information.
